"Online Data Insurance; Internet-based data backup services from Atrieva", PC/Computing, April 1, 1999

Data backup is vital to the continuance of an organization in the event of a disaster. Data backup has traditionally been done with tapes. Data is archived to tape and taken offsite for storage in a data vault. Data can also be backed up to remote sites. However, due to the maintenance involved in providing multiple sites that are geographically dispersed, this option can be very expensive. If you don’t have the resources to do that, the Atrieva company has offered an alternative, "Internet FileZone." This software runs on your server and has a windows explorer like interface. From there you can schedule automatic backup of your data to Atrieva’s website via the Internet. Data is virus scanned and encrypted before being sent. Data is stored on RAID 5 disk arrays in a facility that is fireproof, waterproof, and with enough backup power to last three days. All of your files are accessible through any web browser. The company says in the event of a disaster, it will also ship a CD containing all of your files overnight. The Internet FileZone service costs $9.99 a month for up to 100MB and $14.99 a month for up to 1GB. Atrieva also offers individuals up to 10MB storage for free, but only through the web interface (not using the scheduling software).
