(OPTIONAL: Insert faculty picture) Brief Instructor Introduction: (e.g.) My name is Professor Street, and I will be your instructor for (ABC 1234) Introduction to Online Learning. I have been teaching at Broward College since 2004. Prior to that, I worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers and Prentice Hall Publishing. I received my Master's Degree in Corporate Communication and New Information Technologies from Florida State University, and I received my PhD in Computing Technology in Education from Nova Southeastern University. I am a firm believer in online learning, as my passion is online course design, development, and delivery. I look forward to a great semester.
Brief Description of the Course: (e.g.) This course is designed to provide students with hands-on experience to the online learning environment and to introduce the major components involved in using the Internet for delivering course content. Topics include: instructional design, learner engagement, pacing and presentation of materials. Throughout the semester, you will be required to complete activities and assignments, take tests, and participate in discussions in an online learning environment. You will refer to the course syllabus (within the Course Schedule and Assignments section) for specific due dates. The syllabus can be accessed at any time by clicking the syllabus icon in the left-hand margin of your screen (you may have to use the arrows to expand the menu area).
Instructions/Learning Activities: (e.g.) For this week:
- Complete the Online Orientation (located within the 'Orientation -- Start Here' icon on the homepage) to learn how to navigate the course and access learning materials.
- Review the course syllabus (located in the left-hand margin of your screen). It is highly recommended that you print the syllabus and refer to it often throughout the semester.
- Send a mail message (email) to the instructor with the subject, Orientation Email. Compose a short message informing the instructor that you know how to use the Blackboard mail tool. This activity is worth 5 points.
- Participate in one online discussion (Student Bio, item 3.1 in the table of contents; please note you may have to click the plus sign (+) to expand the table of contents). This activity is worth 5 points.
- Submit an assignment with a file attachment (ABC 1234 Scavenger Hunt, item 3.2 in the table of contents; please note you may have to click the plus sign (+) to expand the table of contents). This activity is worth 10 points.
- Take a short quiz relating to the Syllabus (Syllabus Quiz, item 3.3 in the table of contents; please note you may have to click the plus sign (+) to expand the table of contents). This activity is worth 20 points.
IMPORTANT: In order to gain access to ABC 1234 content, you must complete all of the above activities and receive a perfect score on the quiz. Note: You may take the syllabus quiz as many times as you need until the due date. Students should contact the instructor with questions.
